SRF commentary on the EU negotiations

Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) writes online about the negotiations with the EU:
"In spring 2021, the Federal Council did something that the EU is not used to: the Swiss government broke off negotiations on the framework agreement. Looking back, many agree that it was probably the right decision at the time. After all, the current contractual package with the EU is substantially better than the framework agreement. The Swiss negotiators may not have achieved everything, but they have achieved a lot. [...] But the resistance has not diminished. In addition to the critical trade unions and the SVP, which categorically rejects new treaties with the EU, there are now also significantly more skeptical entrepreneurs involved. [...] If the trade unions do not support the new treaties with the EU in the end, there will be no majority in domestic politics."
