Premiere with the media minister: Comedian Stefan Büsser will host the new SRF TV show "Late Night Switzerland" for the first time this late Sunday evening. The first guest is Federal Councillor Albert Rösti. However, according to Büsser, the focus of the show will not be on political satire.

"If there's a midwife for the birth of a new program, then it's the media minister," the 38-year-old Büsser told the SRF program "Faces and Stories" on Friday. Rösti had agreed surprisingly quickly - despite his former role as co-initiator of the so-called halving initiative, which calls for a reduction in radio and television fees to CHF 200.

He will also address the topic in the show, says Büsser. However, he says he does not want to grill the SVP politician with critical questions. It should be a challenge to be a guest on "Late Night Switzerland" - but you should also be able to leave the stage with your head held high.

Closer to "TV total

In any case, Büsser sees himself more as an entertainer than a satirist. For those who have been used to being served political satire on Sundays up to now, he said in an interview on "Gesichter und Geschichten": "We are probably closer to 'TV total' than to 'Giacobbo/Müller'".

Nevertheless, Büsser says he phoned Viktor Giacobbo several times during the preparations for the new show: "I could add him to my favorites on my cell phone by now." He also wrote to his predecessor Dominic Deville to express his respect. Büsser is taking over Deville's broadcasting position after seven years.

The live show takes place in Zurich's "Kaufleuten". The stage is designed along the lines of classic late-night shows, as footage from a rehearsal broadcast in "Faces and Stories" shows. Büsser sits at a large presenter's table. He is accompanied by a studio band and Michael Schweizer as a sidekick. Schweizer has been a companion of Büsser's for a long time. Together with him and Aron Herz, the head writer of "Late Night Switzerland", he creates the podcast "Comedymänner".

Visit to "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Also taking part on Sunday evening will be satirist Martina Hügi as an outside reporter and the comedy duo Nadia Goedhart and Sandro Galfetti, as SRF announced in a press release.

In preparation for the new show, Büsser also visited US late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's show in Los Angeles while on vacation in the USA - and was thoroughly impressed: "There's not an ounce of fat too much, it's incredibly efficient". "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" has been broadcast on the US television channel ABC since 2003. However, Büsser has no complexes about this: "They only boil with water too - they simply have a lot more pots," he concludes.

"Late Night Switzerland" is broadcast at 9.40 pm on SRF1.
