Travel Ombudsman Franco V. Muff warns against travelling to overcrowded tourist destinations such as the Balearic Islands, Egypt or Greece during the summer. He advises people to stay in Switzerland and travel in the spring instead. He has noticed that Swiss people are particularly concerned about the lack of cleanliness in these places. He suggests that people should try to talk to the service providers in a friendly manner if they have a problem. If this does not help, Muff can help mediate between the consumer and the travel industry. He states that in around 10% of cases, a financial compensation is achieved in the form of a payment or voucher from the travel provider. He also notes that people from rural areas are sometimes more difficult to deal with than those from fast-paced cities such as Zurich or Basel.
