Survey Shows Growing Support for Idea of a Single Health Insurance System

A recent survey conducted by Watson revealed that 80% of respondents in the German and West Switzerland regions are in favour of a unified health insurance system. More than three quarters of respondents also want to keep the health insurance obligation. The survey was conducted by Demoscope between August 29th and September 1st, with 9178 people taking part. The majority of respondents (79%) are in favour of a unified health insurance system, where everyone is equally insured. 88% of respondents believe that the current health insurance system needs to be reformed. 77% want to keep the obligation, with only 22% in favour of abolishing it. This is supported by people from all political backgrounds, including those close to the SVP and FDP. 63% of respondents believe that health insurance premiums should be based on income, and a majority of people from all political backgrounds support the cost capping of premiums, as proposed by the SP-Prämien-Entlastungs-Initiative.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
