At least one Swiss citizen has been killed in the terror attacks on Israel, confirmed Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on Friday. Swiss Airlines has cancelled two planned evacuation flights from Tel Aviv to Zurich scheduled for Saturday due to security concerns. The victim was an Israeli-Swiss dual citizen in his late sixties. The Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs has stated that the man had been living in Israel since 2004.
The Swiss government is sending 10 to 20 specialists to Israel to assist with the investigations into the terror attacks. The main task of the experts will be to identify victims of terror based on fingerprints, DNA or other unique characteristics. The Swiss government is also working on a ban of the Hamas and is reviewing financial flows to Palestinian organisations.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has criticised the total blockade of the Gaza Strip and the order for people in Gaza City to leave their homes immediately, both of which violate international humanitarian law. The ICRC has stated that humanitarian law protects all civilians, including those who cannot leave.
