In Switzerland, security measures have been increased in response to recent terror attacks abroad. The government is keeping quiet about the details of the measures, likely to avoid alarmism. Behind the scenes, however, the wires between the responsible authorities are hot. The Security Committee of the Federal Council held an extraordinary meeting on October 10th to discuss the events in the Middle East, and the entire Federal Council is also addressing the issue. The official statement of the Conference of Cantonal Police Commanders is that there is no extraordinary situation requiring a nationwide coordination of police measures. The Federal Intelligence Service assesses the terror threat to Switzerland as increased, with the most plausible scenario being a violent act committed by a single jihadist-inspired individual. The Federal Office of Police and the State Secretariat for Migration are also reviewing and adjusting their security concepts and processes as necessary. In summary, the Swiss government is taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of its citizens in light of the recent terror attacks abroad, while avoiding alarmism.
