The Swiss government is providing financial support to projects aimed at clearing mines in Ukraine. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) has allocated 5.7 million francs to the International Centre for Humanitarian Mine Action in Geneva and the Swiss Foundation for Mine Clearance. This support was announced by Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis at the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in June, with the funds already approved by the Parliament. The GICHD will assist Ukraine in developing its national mine clearance program and advise the relevant authorities on its implementation. The FSD will receive an additional 2.5 million francs to carry out awareness-raising activities and mine clearance operations, with 90% of personnel recruited and trained locally. The Swiss government is also contributing 10 million francs to a UN program for humanitarian mine clearance, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme, and implemented by the FSD. This financial support will help to ensure the safety of the Ukrainian people by clearing mines and unexploded munitions from the country.
