The airline Swiss has announced that it will soon resume flights to the Lebanese capital Beirut as planned. The flight connections had only been suspended on Tuesday due to the security situation in Lebanon.

Swiss will resume flight operations to Beirut from next Saturday, the airline announced on Thursday following an in-depth analysis on site. One return flight on Saturday and two further connections are planned until January 13. After that, the route will not be operated during the winter months - until March 22 - according to the original plan. Swiss normally flies to Beirut twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Swiss is assessing the situation in the conflict region and is in close contact with the local and international authorities. Should the conditions on the ground change, flight operations will be adjusted, it added.

On Tuesday, Saleh al-Aruri, deputy chairman of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, was killed in an airstrike in Beirut. Aruri is considered a co-founder of the military arm of Hamas, which immediately blamed Israel for the airstrike. There was initially no comment from Israel.

Swiss flights to Beirut were suspended after the terrorist attack on Israel by the Islamist group Hamas on October 7 and only resumed on December 16.

Swiss will also resume regular flight operations to Tel Aviv from next Monday, the airline wrote. There will be five weekly direct flights between Zurich and Tel Aviv. These will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
