The Swiss hotel industry recorded more overnight stays again in October. After a decline in September, the tide has turned again thanks to additional guests from abroad. The industry remains on course for record growth this year.

The number of overnight stays increased by 0.6% year-on-year in October, according to an initial estimate released by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Wednesday. In the previous month of September, a decline of 1.4 percent was reported for the first time in a long time.

The increase in October is due to foreign guests. Overnight stays increased by 3.2 percent compared to the same month last year. In contrast, Swiss guests recorded a drop of 1.8 percent.

From January to September, overnight stays increased by a total of 1.8% to 33.7 million. After a good month in October, the industry is well on its way to surpassing the record figure of 41.8 million overnight stays from the previous year.

The definitive and absolute figures for overnight stays in October as well as further information on hotel overnight stays during the 2024 summer season will be published by the FSO on December 5.
