In November, the Swiss hotel industry continued the strong performance of the previous months. Looking at the year as a whole, the industry remains on course for record growth.
In November, hotel overnight stays rose by 7.3% compared to the same month last year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Friday based on an initial estimate. The increase is due in particular to foreign guests. The increase here was 12.5 percent. However, the number of overnight stays by Swiss guests also increased by 2.8 percent.
On course for a record
The Swiss hotel industry was thus able to build on the good figures of the first ten months in November. From January to October, overnight stays had already increased by 9.2 percent year-on-year to 36.2 million.
After ten months, this was also 4.5% ahead of the previous record year of 2019. In the last pre-corona year, a total of 39.6 million overnight stays were registered. Whether the mark falls this year now depends on the start of the winter season. At the moment, however, it looks like it will.
The definitive and absolute figures for overnight stays in November will be published by the FSO on January 16, 2024.
