Swiss intends to use Iranian airspace again for its overflights from May 1. The Swiss airline will resume direct flights to the Lebanese capital Beirut twice a week from Saturday.

This will take place on Tuesday and Saturday, as Swiss reported on Monday. The main reason for the decision was that the situation in both Beirut and Iran had calmed down. After a thorough assessment of the situation, it was concluded that Swiss could guarantee safe flight operations.

Swiss recently announced that it would no longer be flying to the Lebanese capital until the end of April. The Israeli armed forces and the Shiite militia Hezbollah, which is active in Lebanon, have been engaged in firefights for more than six months. Lebanon is also repeatedly the target of air strikes.

The airline is continuing to monitor developments very closely and is in close contact with the relevant authorities in Switzerland and locally, Swiss announced. The airline would react immediately to any changes in the situation if necessary. The safety of crews and passengers is always the top priority.

Last Friday, Swiss resumed its flights to Tel Aviv, which had been suspended for around a week. Iran had attacked Israel with hundreds of drones and missiles over the weekend of April 13 and 14 in retaliation for a suspected Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus, Syria. Commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards had been killed there. As a result, the airlines Lufthansa and Swiss, among others, suspended their flights to Israel.
