Switzerland is calling on the parties to the conflict in the Middle East to begin negotiations on a ceasefire for Gaza.
Switzerland is deeply concerned about the escalation of violence in the Middle East, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced on the short message service X on Sunday.
She urged the parties to prioritize dialogue and to refrain from any actions that could exacerbate the situation.
On Sunday, the Lebanese Hezbollah militia said it had begun its announced retaliatory attack on Israel. The Iranian-backed Shiite militia said that 320 rockets had been fired at Israel in the early morning. According to Israeli media reports, 200 rockets and around 20 drones were fired at Israel from Lebanon. Israeli missile defense intercepted dozens of missiles.
Israel's army subsequently attacked numerous targets in the south of Lebanon. Around 100 fighter jets attacked Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, the army said. The statements by both parties to the conflict could not initially be independently verified.
