27 packages with suspicious contents seized by Swiss customs have busted a German doping network. House searches in Germany on Thursday uncovered kilos and liters of suspicious pills, liquids and powders. Two businessmen are believed to be behind the flourishing internet trade.

The residential and business premises of the 40- and 68-year-old men in Hanover and Langenhagen D were searched by the public prosecutor's office in Hanover, as Swiss Sport Integrity announced on Monday. It is the Swiss organization for the fight against doping and ethics violations in sport.

During the searches in the two northern German cities, the authorities seized around 55,000 capsules, over 32 kilograms of powder and 15 liters of substances suspected of being doping agents. Around 93,000 capsules and over 95 kilograms of powder containing substances suspected of being drugs were also found.

The trail of the doping ring, which has since been dismantled, was followed by 27 packages seized by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS). The two accused internet traders wanted to send these to customers in Switzerland. The contents were suspected of containing doping substances in all cases. Sport Integrity Switzerland then informed the German national anti-doping agency.
