The 100-Year-Old Steam Locomotive of the Rigi Railways on Its First Journey After Revision

On Saturday, a 100-year-old steam locomotive of the Rigi Bahnen completed its first journey after a comprehensive overhaul. Around 170 guests celebrated the event, according to the Rigi Historic Foundation. Locomotive number 16 is a technical masterpiece and still consists of original parts for around 90 percent even after a whole century. Over the years, it has been revised several times and this year it had to undergo a major overhaul due to its age. Among other things, a drive axle, a blind shaft and a wheel were renewed. The crankshaft could be processed and restored thanks to a company from Germany. The Rigi Historic Foundation enables the maintenance of historical Rigi vehicles in an operational state and makes them accessible to future generations.
