Despite significantly higher expenses, the Zug cantonal government is budgeting an increase in profits for 2025. It is assuming a revenue surplus of CHF 226 million. This is 64 million more than it had budgeted for 2024.

Finance Director Heinz Tännler (SVP) presented the 2025 budget and the financial plans up to 2028 on Wednesday. He stated that the canton's financial situation continues to develop positively. Zug will therefore be able to maintain its attractiveness as a business location.

Zug is budgeting expenditure of CHF 2.031 billion for next year, compared to CHF 1.801 billion for the current year. This represents growth of just under 13 percent. In 2023, expenses were still at 1.698 billion francs.

Income is set to increase even more than expenses in 2025, namely by 15 percent from CHF 1.962 billion to CHF 2.257 billion. This means that the budget profit for next year will be 40 percent higher.

The canton of Zug cites "measures to maintain the attractiveness of the location", rising asylum costs and a new cantonal school as reasons for the increase in expenditure. In addition, Zug has to pay CHF 49 million more into the national financial equalization scheme.

On the revenue side, the cantonal government is expecting tax receipts to increase by CHF 116 million. In addition, its share of federal taxes is likely to increase by 78 million francs due to population growth and high-tax inward migration, according to the press release.

In the 2025 budget, the cantonal government is increasing net investments by CHF 58 million compared to the current year to CHF 213 million. Thanks to the high level of liquidity, the investments can be financed without external debt, explained Tännler in the press release.
