Switzerland has expressed its intention to join the G-7 Climate Club, a proposal put forward by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The Swiss Federal Council spokesman and Vice-Chancellor, André Simonazzi, made the announcement on Friday. The Climate Club is intended to be a forum for the G-7 countries to coordinate their efforts to tackle climate change. It is expected to focus on the implementation of the Paris Agreement, the development of green technologies, and the promotion of sustainable economic growth. Switzerland is already a signatory to the Paris Agreement and has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. Joining the Climate Club would enable Switzerland to work more closely with other G-7 countries to achieve this goal.
