The federal government should continue to set its own tariffs for laboratory analyses

In future, the federal government should continue to determine how much health insurance companies have to pay for laboratory analyses. On Thursday, the Council of States spoke out against a system change that would give the tariff partners the final say.
The small chamber did not accept a proposal from the Federal Council. The decision was made by 22 votes to 20 with one abstention. Next up is the National Council.
Parliament itself proposed the system change in 2018 with a motion passed by the Social and Health Committee of the Council of States (SGK-S). Its spokesperson Pierre-Yves Maillard (SP/VD) explained the change of heart in the Council of States.
Accordingly, the transfer of competencies to the tariff partners would lead to major complications. In particular, a system change would entail the risk that tariff negotiations would be blocked due to the existing divergences between the numerous players involved.
