The Rector of the College of St-Maurice resigns from office

The rector of the College of St-Maurice Abbey is stepping down from his post for the time being. The reason is the media reports of sexual abuse that have shaken the abbey.
Although the principal is not accused in the recently published reports, he has decided to step down from his post for the duration of the investigation by the Valais judiciary, the Valais Department of Education announced on Thursday. The rector has taken this decision in the interests of the school so that it can continue its educational tasks with the greatest possible serenity.
The interim abbot, a teacher at the college, was suspended from teaching at the beginning of the week. According to a report by the French-speaking Swiss television station RTS, the churchman allegedly abused a novice a few years ago.
