The huge rockfall at the Gross Tschingelhorn diagonally above the famous Martinsloch near Elm GL occurred on October 3 at 9.46 am. This is confirmed by records from the Swiss Seismological Service.

The rockfall can be determined to the second using seismic data, a spokeswoman for the Swiss Seismological Service told the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Although more than 10,000 cubic meters of rock fell from the summit ridge of the Gross Tschingelhorn into the valley on both the Glarus and Grisons sides, no one seemed to notice this immediately. However, residents of the municipality of Elm GL later noticed that the mountain suddenly looked different.
