The "Tages-Anzeiger" analyzes the rejection of the two health initiatives as follows:

" (...) Carry on as before - that is not an option. Because health insurance premiums are still the most important concern of the Swiss population, and the strong cost growth is unlikely to change even with the vague counter-proposal to the cost brake initiative. General quality and budget targets are toothless instruments as long as the authorities cannot enforce compliance. (...)

Looking ahead, politicians must counter these fears with reforms that do not result in a loss of quality. Concrete solutions with high savings potential are already on the table. Decisive action must be taken, for example, on the glaringly underdeveloped digitalization, high drug prices, outdated medical tariffs, excessive bureaucracy in hospitals and doctors' surgeries and the high number of unnecessary treatments. However, the lavish hospital landscape in Switzerland must now be redimensioned and planned nationally as a matter of priority. (...) The discussion about healthcare costs does not end with the referendum on Sunday - it is only now entering the hot phase."
