Three Italian nationals were arrested yesterday during a car chase near Lugano. The suspects' car had previously been speeding along the A2 near the Monte Ceneri tunnel.

After the car evaded two police checks, it crashed into a retaining wall at the side of the road. The occupants, aged 35, 38 and 65, fled on foot and were arrested following a manhunt, as the cantonal police and the Ticino public prosecutor's office announced on Saturday.

During the search of the car and the three men, burglary tools and stolen goods were found. The suspects have to answer for repeated theft, damage, trespassing, obstructing official acts and serious violations of road traffic regulations.

Investigators are looking into whether the men may have been involved in the burglaries committed in Ticino in recent weeks.
