Rapper EAZ leads the nominees for the 17th Swiss Music Awards with three nominations; Remo Forrer has hopes in two categories. Beatrice Egli and Joya Marleen have the prospect of taking home their fourth concrete block each.
The motto "new game, new opportunities" applies to Gölä and Baschi. Bernese dialect rocker Gölä has so far come away empty-handed despite seven nominations. And pop singer Baschi has been nominated four times without any previous success. At the 17th edition of the Swiss Music Awards, both could be hoping again. They are nominated alongside Zurich rapper EAZ in the Best Male Act category.
Among the female acts is a first-time nomination - with the Aargau rock star Seraina Telli, alongside pop singer Beatrice Egli (nominated for the tenth time) and Joya Marleen from St. Gallen, according to a press release from the Swiss Music Awards organizers on Wednesday.
There are also two new categories at the 17th Swiss Music Awards: Best Streaming Artist and Most Rising Artist Social Media. They are based on the streaming figures of the three nominees and their activities on social media. The Graubünden rapper Gigi (@badbgigii), the solo artist Phanee de Pool from the Bernese Jura (@phanee_de_pool) and the Aargau rapper Rio de Don (@riodedon) made it into the latter category.
Well-known names can be found among the Best Streaming Artists with rapper EAZ, Lucerne dialect rock band Hecht and Ländler musicians Stubete Gäng.
Many well-known names
In fact, there are many well-known names among the candidates in the eleven categories for Swiss music. In the Best Group category, for example, Züri West are nominated alongside the folksy male choir Heimweh and the Schwyzerörgeli quartet Genderbüebu. All of them have already won several awards.
In the Best Live Act category, too, all the nominees have already won: Patent Ochsner seven times, alongside dialect folk singer Trauffer and indie folk band Black Sea Dahu.
All nominations, including those in the four international categories, have been available at swissmusicawards.ch since Wednesday. Voting began at midday today. The 17th Swiss Music Awards will be presented on May 8 in Zurich's Hallenstadion. The organizer is CH Media Entertainment, under license from the industry association of Swiss music labels IFPI.
