Ticino government insists on compensation for subscription holders

SBB should compensate season ticket holders and create incentives for day-trippers: This is what Raffaele De Rosa, President of the Ticino government, is demanding after the delayed reopening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel became known.
With regard to the 2024 peak season, SBB must "use all leeway" to improve connections to southern Switzerland, De Rosa said in response to a question from the Keystone-SDA news agency.
In addition, the federal government and SBB should think about compensation for season ticket holders. Incentives such as discounts for day trips to southern Switzerland would also be helpful, because day trips have decreased since the accident in the Gotthard base tunnel, De Rosa explained.
The Ticino government expressed overall disappointment at the delayed reopening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel. The accident had revealed the vulnerability of the north-south connections, De Rosa summed up. As the only canton located on the south side, the connection to the rest of Switzerland is of fundamental importance for Ticino, he said.
