The Swiss Association of Public Service Employees (VPOD) has collected 8,300 signatures in support of a popular initiative for the immediate abolition of the so-called "Morisoli Decree". The decree demands an equalization of the Ticino profit and loss account by the end of 2025.

The bill launched by SVP cantonal councillor Sergio Morisoli was approved by the people of Ticino in spring 2022 with 46,816 votes in favor and 35,503 against.

Following this approved spending brake, the Ticino government adopted a major savings program. Among other things, this concerns subsidies for public transport, health, social and educational institutions as well as state employees. The austerity program led to several major demonstrations in Ticino.

The popular initiative submitted on Friday demands the immediate abolition of the "Morisoli Decree". A popular initiative in Ticino would require 7,000 signatures.
