SBB presented its draft timetable for 2025 on Tuesday. The plans include more direct connections to tourist areas, new night-time connections and additional connections to neighboring countries.

The half-hourly service on long-distance services in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley will double the services available to commuters there, SBB wrote in a press release. As soon as the Gotthard Base Tunnel is fully operational again, the railroad company also intends to introduce an integral half-hourly service on the north-south axis. According to current plans, this will be the case in September, according to the press release.

SBB is also planning additional intercity connections between eastern Switzerland and Zurich. This should enable a more frequent service and provide more seats, according to the statement.

In the Bern region, an Intercity train will now stop at Bern-Wankdorf station during morning and evening commuter times. According to SBB, the aim is to relieve pressure on Bern station. According to the draft, various long-distance trains will also stop in the Lausanne suburb of Renens in future.

Night-time connections on the Berne-Olten-Zurich route will also be expanded, as will connections to neighboring countries. From Monday to Saturday, for example, a train will now depart from Zurich to Munich at 05.35 a.m. - two hours earlier than before.

Once the Gotthard Base Tunnel is fully reopened, the direct trains to Bologna and Genoa, the Eurocity Basel-Lucerne-Milano and the trinational Frankfurt-Zurich-Milano train will also be running again, according to the press release. The direct Zurich-Brig train will now run all year round and will be extended to Domodossola.

The entire draft timetable will be available on the Internet from next Thursday - when the consultation process will be opened. The new timetable will come into force on December 15.
