Air Glaciers rescue teams rescued two climbers unharmed on Sunday in the Sanetsch area on the cantonal border between Bern and Valais, who were stuck on a rock face under an overhang and were unable to descend or reach the summit on their own.

On a 200-meter-long longline, a mountain guide was flown to the height of the people in distress to throw them a rope with which he could reach them under the overhang, as Air-Glaciers announced on Monday.

According to the press release, the two people were then lowered unharmed to a nearby meadow. The use of a longline for this type of rescue is not an everyday occurrence, it added.

According to Air-Glaciers, two further evacuations of climbers and mountaineers were carried out on the same day.
