Two injured after two fires in Winterthur

Two fires caused several tens of thousands of francs worth of damage in Winterthur on Sunday night. Two women had to be hospitalized. The causes of the fires are still unknown and are being investigated.

At around 8 p.m., a fire was reported to the Winterthur city police operations center on the terrace of an apartment building on Riedhofstrasse. The fire, which had already spread to the façade by the time the fire department arrived, was extinguished by the fire department, the Zurich cantonal police reported on Sunday.

The emergency services evacuated all residents of the affected property and the neighboring property. A 30-year-old woman was taken to hospital with symptoms of smoke inhalation. One apartment was no longer habitable after the fire.

In another fire after midnight in an allotment garden in Winterthur-Töss, a 57-year-old woman suffered minor burns and had to be taken to hospital. At around 00.30 a.m., a passing train passenger noticed the fire in the allotment garden shed.

When the Winterthur city police and fire department arrived, a Pünten cottage was already fully engulfed in flames. According to the police, the surrounding cottages were also damaged.
