The Ukrainian Border Guard reported that they have used drones to prevent the escape of conscripts abroad. On Friday, 14 men were prevented from illegally crossing the border into the Republic of Moldova in the southern Odessa region. In four cases, a drone was used for aerial reconnaissance. The border guards released a video of the incident. The men were attempting to illegally cross the border.

Men in Ukraine are attempting to flee in order to avoid being drafted to fight in the Russian aggression war. According to the border guard, the suspects had contacted organizers online who offered them escape routes for a fee of 2000 US dollars (approximately 1893 Euros).

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion more than 20 months ago, the Ukrainian border guard has reportedly prevented more than 20,000 conscripts from fleeing. The refugees are repeatedly intercepted at the "green border" mainly to Romania and the Republic of Moldova. In the border river Tyssa (Theiss) to Romania and Hungary, there have also been cases in which men drowned. Several also froze to death while fleeing through the Carpathians.

At the beginning of the war, a general mobilization was ordered with a ban on the departure of conscripted men between the ages of 18 and 60. False exit permits are not widespread in the country. According to Eurostat, the EU statistical agency, more than 650,000 Ukrainian men aged 18 to 64 are registered as refugees in the 27 EU countries, as well as Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
