Swiss universities see significant negotiation successes for research and positive signals for education. This is because the universities are currently very much confronted with the negative consequences of the breakdown of negotiations with the EU in March 2021, according to a press release issued by Swissuniversities on Friday.
Many universities would face significant financial and structural challenges, albeit to varying degrees, if tuition fees were no longer differentiated between nationals and non-nationals. Solutions would have to be found at national level for Swiss universities to ensure their quality, capacity and the necessary funding in the future. They are confident that appropriate measures can be taken to meet these demands.
Of particular relevance to Swissuniversities is the provisional association to the Horizon package from 2025 and the legal framework for Switzerland's association to the EU programs for education, research and innovation. It is of existential importance for Switzerland that its universities can continue to play a leading role in the European research and education landscape.
