A canister containing a descaling liquid for hot water boilers leaked in the Geneva municipality of Carouge on Friday evening. In the course of the ensuing operation, the Geneva Fire and Rescue Service discovered that unknown quantities of the descaling product had already entered the hot water circuit of two connected buildings on Thursday.
According to the Geneva Fire and Rescue Service (SIS), this happened while cleaning work was being carried out. According to the SIS, more than 90 households are housed in the two affected properties.
According to the SIS, checks were then carried out later on Friday evening to determine whether the water still posed a risk to the residents. A total of six people were involved, whose medical status was still being checked at the time of the announcement, it added.
Two workers who came into contact with the liquid on Friday evening were uninjured, according to an examination by paramedics.
