The publishing house Weltbild has now also filed for bankruptcy in Switzerland. This was reported on the company's website on Wednesday.

Weltbild Switzerland offered books as well as decorative, hobby and leisure articles on the Internet and in 24 stores in German-speaking Switzerland. The news portal 32Today first reported on the demise of Weltbild in Switzerland.

"With a heavy heart, we had to apply for the opening of bankruptcy proceedings for Weltbild Verlag GmbH on 21.08.2024," reads the message to customers. The branch locations and the store will remain closed with immediate effect.

The background to this was the insolvency of the German parent company. As a result, events came thick and fast.

The parent company will be finally liquidated at the beginning of September. As a result, the "necessary systemic and personnel resources from the parent company for the planned transformation to independence are no longer available to Schweizer Weltbild Verlag GmbH as initially planned". At the same time, talks with existing and potential investors did not bear fruit, the press release continued.

In June, it was said that the insolvency of the German parent company would have no consequences. Business continued to run smoothly. The processes of Weltbild Switzerland were set up in independent structures parallel to the processes in Germany, according to the statements made at the time.
