A 27-year-old woman who has been missing since the end of January has been found dead in the Rhine near Laufen-Uhweisen ZH. The police have not ruled out the possibility that the woman's death was the fault of a third party. A man suspected of the crime - her husband - was therefore arrested in the canton of Schaffhausen.

Police discovered the woman's lifeless body on the banks of the Rhine on Friday afternoon, as the Schaffhausen police announced on Saturday. They gave no details of the circumstances.

The suspect is the woman's 32-year-old husband, a police spokesman told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request. He was arrested on Friday evening.

The exact circumstances of the missing woman's death are the subject of an ongoing investigation, the police said. The cause of death was also initially unclear.

The woman had been missing since Wednesday a week ago. Relatives had contacted the police, said the spokesperson for the authorities. According to the police, the woman left her home in Schaffhausen at the time. After that, there was no trace of her.
