On Saturday, the delegates of the women's umbrella organization Alliance F narrowly voted in favour of the initiative for a 13th AHV pension, which will be put to the vote on 3 March. In contrast, the Young Liberals' pension initiative was rejected.

The decision to vote in favor of the initiative for a 13th AHV pension was made at the extraordinary delegates' meeting on Saturday by 32 votes to 28 with eight abstentions, as Alliance F announced in Bern on Saturday.

Min Li Marti, a member of the SP National Council in Zurich, argued that the AHV pension is particularly important for women. One in five of today's female pensioners is affected by poverty in old age and half of them only receive an AHV pension.

Christina Bachmann-Roth, President of Mitte-Frauen from Aargau, argued against the initiative, which in her view does not help women's concerns. The pensioners who would benefit most from the initiative are those who already receive maximum pensions, i.e. more often men.

The delegates clearly voted against the pension initiative. The decision was made by 42 votes to six with six abstentions.
