Wrong-way driver dies in an accident in the Bruyères tunnel in Vaud

A 25-year-old wrong-way driver crashed head-on into a correctly oncoming car in the Bruyère Tunnel VD on the A1 on Sunday night. He died at the scene of the accident, the other driver was seriously injured.
The cantonal police were informed of the wrong-way driver on the A1 in the direction of Payerne VD shortly after four o'clock in the morning, they announced on Sunday evening. In the Bruyères tunnel between Estavayer-le-Lac VD and Yverdon VD, a car came towards him in the same lane and the two vehicles collided head-on.
The 25-year-old wrong-way driver from the canton of Jura died at the scene of the accident despite rapid medical assistance. The other driver, a 24-year-old Swiss national, had to be rescued from his car and then flown to Lausanne University Hospital with serious injuries.
In addition to six patrols from the Vaud cantonal police, two patrols from the Fribourg cantonal police, traffic specialists from the Vaud cantonal police, an ambulance, a doctor and various fire departments were also deployed. The section of highway was closed for several hours. The Vaud cantonal police are looking for witnesses and have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
