After a chase involving police officers from three cantons, two suspected car thieves were arrested in Ins BE on Monday evening. A third car occupant managed to escape.

The detainees are a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old teenager, as reported by the cantonal police and the juvenile prosecutor's office in Bern on Tuesday. One of them was slightly injured during the escape and was taken to hospital. Despite "intensive searches", including with service dogs from the cantonal police forces of Fribourg and Neuchâtel, a third person has not yet been apprehended.

It all started at 02.00 a.m. when a car theft was reported in Bern. In the evening, the wanted car was spotted in Le Landeron NE, according to a press release. After an unsuccessful attempt to stop the car, a chase ensued with patrols from the cantons of Neuchâtel and Fribourg.

The pursuers had an accident in the state forest near Ins, whereupon they fled on foot, it is said. Police officers from Bern were finally able to apprehend two of the suspected car thieves and arrest them with the help of a rubber bullet launcher. A search is underway for the third person involved.
