Zurich firewalking event without legal repercussions

There will be no legal repercussions from the firewalking event on the Au peninsula in Zurich. The Zurich public prosecutor has dropped the criminal proceedings against the organizer for negligent bodily harm.
The parties had reached an amicable agreement, the public prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. It thus confirmed a report by the NZZ.
This agreement consists of the organizer of the "Hot Feet" experience apologizing to the injured and making a donation to fire victims at the Zurich Children's Hospital.
In June 2022, the company event led to a large-scale emergency medical response: 25 participants burned their feet while running on fire. 13 of them had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries. Several participants subsequently filed criminal charges against the organizer.
After the accident, the organizers emphasized that the participants had been technically and mentally prepared for the event. However, not everyone had followed the instructions. Some people had jumped over the coals.
Walking over glowing coals is considered a ritual. If done correctly, there should be no injuries at all, as was the case on this occasion. Decisive factors include the type of wood used, the speed of the walk and the time of day, as it is important to be able to see the embers during the firewalk.
