The trial of a young woman responsible for a fatal 2022 car accident begins, with her seeking a reduced sentence.
On Tuesday, the trial of a fatal accident began at the St. Gallen cantonal court of second instance. A young woman caused a car accident with three fatalities in 2022. She is now demanding a lower prison sentence of a maximum of 15 months.
The trial began in the morning with the questioning of the 22-year-old woman. The accident occurred on April 15, 2022, when she got behind the wheel of a car at midnight under the influence of alcohol and was speeding through Niederuzwil SG at 160 km/h with three men in the back seat and a female passenger when the car left the road.
All three men died in the accident and the female passenger was seriously injured. In June 2023, the District Court of Wil sentenced her to four years’ imprisonment for, among other things, involuntary manslaughter and negligent grievous bodily harm. She lodged an appeal against this.
