The Fire Brigades of Graubünden Get a Handle on the Flood Risk

In Graubünden, the situation which had become tense due to heavy rainfall since Saturday night had calmed down by Monday afternoon. No damage reports were received by the cantonal police since noon. Two passes were still closed and two side valleys were cut off. The Splügenpass was closed due to multiple landslides and the Umbrailpass was closed for safety reasons. The Val S-Charl in the Lower Engadin, which is sparsely populated but popular with hikers, was also inaccessible by land. Fire brigades, municipal services and the road construction office were in continuous operation until the afternoon. The situation was under control in the Upper Engadin due to flooding of the Inn and various streams. The Sufnerstausee was partially drained on Sunday to prevent it from overflowing and the A13 was protected from flooding with sandbags near Andeer. In Sent in the Lower Engadin, a campsite was flooded. On Saturday evening, the valley road near Stampa in the Bergell was blocked for three hours due to stones and trees. The blockslides above the village of Brienz/Brinzauls increased, but there was no immediate danger to the village.
