The Swiss Federal Council has amended a regulation to make it easier for children with birth defects to receive support from the Invalidenversicherung (IV). The IV will now be able to cover the costs of treatments or examinations that are not listed in the health insurance catalogue, as well as medical measures that cost more than the amount specified in the list. This change was due to take effect in early 2022, but it caused uncertainty for providers of medical products, who were charging the affected families for the additional costs. The new regulation ensures that the IV will cover these costs, and that individual cases can still be assessed. The IV will cover necessary medical measures for children and young people with birth defects until they reach the age of 20, including physiotherapy and occupational therapy. After that, the health insurance will be responsible.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
