Vaccination Reduces Coronavirus Transmission According to Study

A new study conducted by researchers from the University of Geneva and the University Hospital of Geneva (Unige and HUG) has shown that a Covid-19 vaccination reduces the transmission of the coronavirus. The study, published in the journal Nature Communications, analysed the contacts of 50,000 people who tested positive for the virus between June 2020 and March 2022. On average, one person infected three out of ten of their contacts, and up to four out of ten in some cases. Immunisation through vaccination, infection or a combination of both drastically reduced the number of infected contacts, with an immunised person infecting on average one out of ten of their contacts. The protection effect decreased after a few months, but the protection provided by vaccination lasted longer and was more effective against new variants of the virus.
