The Waadtland State Council is concerned about the cost-cutting measures and job cuts at Tamedia in the West of Switzerland. In a letter to the management, the cantonal government expressed its "deep concern for the jobs and media diversity". The State Council regretted the potential loss of a significant number of jobs in the editorial offices of the "Tribune de Genève" and "24 Heures", the joint Tamedia editorial and "Le Matin Dimanche". The government is aware of the rapid development of the economic environment of the media industry. It reminded the publisher in its letter of the importance of media diversity and reporting on regional events. A delegation of the State Council will soon receive the Tamedia management. Tamedia announced on Wednesday that up to 28 of its 250 jobs in the West of Switzerland would be cut. The Zurich media group justified the restructuring with weak sales. The aim is to save 3.5 million francs in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Tamedia also plans to cut jobs in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, but to a lesser extent. Employees will be informed about the planned measures on Thursday.
