The desire for more living space is the main motivation for moving in Switzerland. According to a study, 53 percent of those ready to move wish for more space. Most often, starting or expanding a family is the trigger for a move, according to the study, which was conducted in part by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and released on Thursday. Around half of 18- to 29-year-olds with a desire for children or with children would move for this reason. The desire for a home of their own also plays a central role. According to the study, currently 75 percent of those willing to move are in a rental agreement. After a move, only 48 percent of women and men would like to remain tenants, with the acquisition of a single-family home being of great importance. Approximately 45 percent of the Swiss population is considering moving. As it further states, the willingness to move decreases with age. Overall, about half of the Swiss population does not want to move. In the spring of 2023, a representative study was conducted in the German-speaking and French-speaking parts of Switzerland, involving a total of 1094 people, to investigate their moving behavior. The Federal Office for Housing, the Fédération Romande Immobilière, the Swiss Homeowners Association and Raiffeisen Switzerland were also involved in the study.nn
