Commission to Strengthen Access Rights to Administrative E-Mails

The Swiss Ständerats Geschäftsprüfungskommission (GPK-S) has revealed gaps in the archiving and filing of documents in the General Secretariat of Interior Minister Alain Berset. In response, the GPK-S has called for measures to be taken to clarify the relationship between the Archiving Law (BGA) and the Publicity Law (BGÖ), strengthen the right of access of the Federal Data Protection and Publicity Officer (Edöb), and extend the current four and a half month retention period for electronic data of departing staff. It is unclear whether any of the missing emails have been destroyed. The GPK-S has concluded that the General Secretariat-EDI has not fulfilled its legal obligations under the BGÖ.
