The "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" writes online about the SP's two-way ticket for the election of the Federal Council:
"The selection is solid, but not outstanding: Jon Pult is a bright mind, but the 39-year-old from Chur has only been a member of the National Council for four years and has no executive experience. Beat Jans has both legislative and executive experience as a former National Councillor and as the current President of the Government of Basel-Stadt, but he has not yet stood out as a great shaper.
It must have been clear to the parliamentary group that the most suitable candidates were Zurich Councillor of States Daniel Jositsch and long-time parliamentary group leader Roger Nordmann. Neither man made it onto the ticket. Nordmann did surprisingly well in the marathon ballot. Jositsch, the man the Federal Assembly would elect if he were on the ticket, was punished for his ambition. The resentment goes back to last year, when the party presented an all-female ticket. Jositsch still got a few votes and failed to say he was not available."
