Public transport pass for the blind and visually impaired is abolished

The ID card for the blind and visually impaired on public transport will be abolished at the end of the year. Alternatives for discounted subscriptions for day tickets were also rejected by the responsible industry association Alliance SwissPass.
The Alliance Swiss Pass is of the opinion that there are also sufficient alternatives for people with visual impairments to buy a public transport ticket, wrote the Swiss Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBV) in a press release on Wednesday. In addition to electronic solutions, there is also the option of buying tickets free of charge by telephone.
However, older customers would be neglected in this way, according to SBC. A third of people with a visual impairment are over 80 years old and therefore have difficulty using a smartphone.
Furthermore, recipients of supplementary benefits are often unable to afford an expensive travelcard. In many regions, there are still no discounted public transport season tickets for IV recipients.
The SBV is the national self-help organization in the field of visual impairments. The association supports blind and visually impaired people in their efforts to lead an independent and successful life at work and in society.
