A rockfall or landslide occurred on the Axenstrasse between Flüelen and Sisikon UR early Saturday morning. According to Alertswiss, the A4 highway between Tellsplatte and Sisikon is open again in both directions.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the area initially had to be widely avoided. The all-clear was given shortly after 7.30 a.m. via Alertswiss. The Uri cantonal police confirmed this.
According to the cantonal police, the surveillance instruments detected movements in the "Gumpisch" area shortly before 4.45 a.m. on Saturday. These had subsequently led to detections in the safety nets above the Axenstrasse. For this reason, the Axenstrasse had to be closed immediately.
The vehicles on Axenstrasse had to turn around. No persons were injured. According to initial findings, the road and bridge were not damaged.
Further incidents cannot be ruled out
According to the police, the situation will be assessed on site by specialists as soon as the weather conditions allow. Due to the current weather conditions, further incidents cannot be ruled out. For safety reasons, Axenstrasse will therefore remain closed to traffic between the Flüelen traffic circle and the Wolfsprung junction until further notice.
The access routes from the south to Tellsplatte and from the north to Sisikon and Riemenstalden are safe. It is recommended that you follow the traffic signs and take a wide detour around the closed Axenstrasse via the Seelisberg tunnel and Lucerne.
