Election ceremony for Herzog and Nussbaumer begins in Liestal BL

The celebrations for the election of National Council President Eric Nussbaumer (SP) and Council of States President Eva Herzog (SP) began on Wednesday in Liestal BL. The two were accompanied by a procession through the town.
The celebrations will continue throughout the day. After the public reception in Liestal, a boat trip, a parade, a ceremony and a gala dinner are planned in Basel.
On Monday, Herzog became the first woman from Basel to be elected President of the Council of States. She is the sixth woman to hold this office. Also on Monday, Eric Nussbaumer from Basel was elected to the office of Switzerland's highest office. He is the 25th Social Democrat to take the presidency.
This means that next year, two SP members from the two Basel cantons will preside over the Federal Assembly. The ceremony will cost a total of 480,000 francs. The cantons of Basel-Stadt and Baselland and the city of Liestal are contributing to this.
