The federal government can build in Switzerland and Cameroon for CHF 218.1 million. After the Council of States, the National Council also approved the Federal Council's corresponding credit requests on Monday. The 2023 Real Estate Dispatch for civilian buildings is thus signed and sealed.

The dispatch focuses on two extensions to federal buildings in Switzerland and a new construction project in Cameroon's capital Yaoundé. The Federal Council can now invest CHF 29.5 million in the expansion and renovation of the Agroscope research center in Zurich-Reckenholz.

The federal government is to extend the underground connecting level of the federal administration and laboratory buildings in Liebefeld (municipality of Köniz BE) at a cost of CHF 21.1 million.

The Federal Council can have a new building and a new chancery constructed for the Swiss representation in Cameroon's capital for CHF 27.5 million. The two buildings are to be constructed on the grounds of the Swiss embassy and will replace rented buildings.

The Real Estate Dispatch also includes expenditure of CHF 140 million for projects not individually specified below CHF 10 million. The National Council approved the federal decree in the overall vote on Monday by 177 votes to 2. The Council of States had approved it unanimously in September.

In the National Council, an SVP minority of the preliminary committee failed with the motion to limit the costs for the project in Cameroon to 20 million. Committee spokesman Gerhard Andrey (Greens/FR) said that the Federal Administration had been able to plausibly demonstrate to the committee that the costs of 27.5 million were in line with comparable buildings in Africa.
