At the 45th Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival from January 22 to 28 in the German state of Saarland, 18 prizes worth a total of 118,500 euros (around 112,500 Swiss francs) will be awarded. This was announced by the organizers on Friday in Saarbrücken.
58 films are taking part in the competitions in four categories: feature film, documentary, medium-length film and short film. Together with the sidebars and special series, 131 films will be shown in 226 screenings at seven venues. "A film year full of emotion, depth and the desire for freedom," said program director Theresa Winkler to the German Press Agency.
The Max Ophüls Prize is considered the most important festival for young German-language film and stands for the discovery of young talent from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. At the most recent edition almost a year ago, the organizers recorded more than 38,000 visits to the cinemas and events.
The 45th Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival will also take place in a dual format. A selection of the films will once again be available to stream via the film festival website.
