A 16-year-old fled from a police checkpoint in a car on the A3 towards Zurich on Saturday morning. He only came to a halt when he knocked over a candelabra.
The police received a report shortly before 7 a.m. that a very unsafe driver was traveling on the A3 in the direction of Zurich, according to the Zurich cantonal police. They responded and wanted to stop the man. When he saw the officers behind him, he accelerated the car regardless of the speed limit and drove on in the direction of Zurich.
He left the highway at the Richterswil exit, the police reported. Shortly afterwards, his vehicle struck another car before colliding with a lighting candelabra. He then dragged it around 50 meters under the vehicle until it came to a standstill.
The driver was arrested by the police officers from the Schwyz cantonal police who arrived to assist. No one was injured. The juvenile prosecutor's office is investigating how the 16-year-old got to the car. The circumstances of the traffic accident in Richterswil are also being clarified.
